A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that alters the way your brain functions. Effects are usually temporary, but can include problems with concentration, memory, judgment, balance, coordination, and can cause headaches. It is extremely important to know the signs of concussion, and even more so important not to return to activity too early, as this can lead to further damage, and can also make you very susceptible to another concussion.
Concussion in sport is very common, but unfortunately concussions are typically not managed well, nor is a great enough importance put on them. It is crucial that a concussion is professionally assessed and that your health care provider advises you when it is safe to return to sport. At the S.C.A.P. Centre we can assess you, provide concussion treatment to the associated structures, and advise you on nutritional information and physical signs to assist in a safe recovery.
